Global Maritime Learning Solutions Empowered (GMLSe) was officially presented with the prestigious Areté recognition by the Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport during the opening ceremony of the institution’s landmark 20th-anniversary celebrations in Barcelona.
The accolade honours select organizations that have demonstrated exceptional collaboration, trust, and commitment, helping shape Escola’s journey over the past two decades.
The recognition is represented by a commemorative crest inspired by Areté, the ancient Greek concept of excellence and virtue.
Escola has adopted this philosophy to anchor its 20th anniversary, reflecting the six core values that have guided the institution since 2006: creativity, dialogue and cooperation, self-determination, effort, commitment to people and the environment, and wisdom.
The award ceremony took place on 14 October at the newly named Jardins de l’Areté in Port Vell, Barcelona. The high-profile event served as the official launch point for a five-day commemorative voyage connecting Escola’s founding Mediterranean port communities.
Elwyn Pitt, Managing Director of GMLSe, accepted the award in person.

Eduard Rodes, Director of Escola Europea, expressed deep gratitude for the long-standing partnership, noting that GMLSe has been an integral part of the institution’s success. Through joint training initiatives, strategic partnerships, and a shared dedication to the advancement of Mediterranean ports, logistics, and human capital, GMLSe has contributed significantly to Escola’s growth and current standing in the maritime sector.
“Receiving the Areté recognition from Escola Europea is a profound honour for everyone at GMLSe,” said Elwyn Pitt. “Our long-standing collaboration has always been driven by a shared vision: ensuring our students are comprehensively capacitated to meet the fast-evolving demands of the global maritime and logistics industry.”
Pitt highlighted that international partnerships are vital for bridging the gap between academic training and real-world operational challenges. “The maritime sector requires professionals who are not only technically skilled but also adaptive and deeply aware of environmental and logistical shifts.
Through our work with the Escola, we have been able to provide world-class training frameworks that empower the next generation. This recognition reinforces our commitment to expanding these educational benchmarks and keeping our students at the forefront of industry excellence.”
